Turmeric or turmeric, (Curcuma longa Linn. syn. Curcuma domestica Val.), is one of the spices and medicinal plants native to Southeast Asia. This plant then spread to Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and even Africa.
Almost every Indonesian and Indian as well as Asian people have generally consumed this spice plant, either as a complement to cooking spices, herbs or medicine to maintain health and beauty such as use in skin and facial treatments.
Turmeric belongs to the ginger group, Zingiberaceae.
Turmeric is known in various regions by several local names including turmeric (English), kurkuma (Netherlands), turmeric (Indonesia and Malaysia), janar (Banjar), turmeric (Java), koneng (Sunda), huni (Bima), konyé ‘ (Madura), Kunyir (Komering). Cahang
(Dayak Panyambung), Dio (Panihing), Uinida (Talaud), Kuni (Sangir), Alawaha (Gorontalo), and many other unique names spread from the territory of Indonesia considering that Indonesia has various regions and languages.
Turmeric is a spice commonly used in cooking in Asian countries. Turmeric is often used as a spice in dishes such as curry, and is also used to give food a yellow color, or as a preservative.
